Go Green Holiday Gifting

November 27, 2022 by lgranger

Give a Gift That Is Good for the Planet Too

The holidays are a festive time that brings families and friends together. Holiday cheer can be contagious making our hearts warm. For this season, let our gifts bring joy AND a better tomorrow.

Climate change is here and we can make adjustments moving forward on how we leave this planet better than when we found it. Especially here in our Tahoe-Truckee region where we want to keep our lake blue, the air clean, and a space to live alongside nature.

Give gifts this year that will bring joy to your loved ones while supporting change for a better tomorrow. Here are 10 environmentally friendly and desirable gifts that will be sure to delight!

1. Inkkas

Founded in 2012, Inkkas creates footwear using authentic Peruvian textiles. It prioritizes its partners throughout the supply chain with paid fair living wages and a healthy, safe and respectful work environment. Inkkas is also committed to improving our environment by being part of the OneShoreOneTree project and Trees for the Future. For every shoe purchase, Inkkas plants a tree with 325,050 trees planted to date. That has offset 18,806.098 metric tons of carbon.

2. Patagonia

For almost 40 years, Patagonia has supported grassroots groups working to find solutions to the environmental crisis. It connects individuals to their grantees in order to take action facing the world today through their Patagonia Action Works program. This is also true in their products, making gear from recycled polyester and fishing nets while moving towards 100% renewable and recycled raw materials.

3. Poppy Finch

Rethinking fine jewelry, Poppy Finch redefined everyday luxury with a holistic approach to building a sustainable production ecosystem from sourcing recycled gold and ethical gemstones to the master jewelers crafting their pieces. They believe that making jewelry one can feel good about wearing without compromising design, quality and conscience.

4. Caraway

Caraway produces high quality ceramic-coated aluminum cookware that is free of PTFE (such as Teflon), lead and other toxic materials that leach into food. While producing their cookware, they release up to 60% less carbon dioxide into the environment compared to traditional nonstick coatings. They also use certified manufacturers where employees are safe, paid fairly, given benefits and work regulated hours.

5. Zero Waste Kit

Nipaqui sustainable products for the home and kitchen has a zero waste kit that includes reusable food storage bags, beeswax wraps, mesh produce bags, and stainless steel straws. They believe in fighting climate change by supporting non-profits such as the Coalition for Rainforest Nations funded by a portion of their profits.
