❄️Which Snow Boot Are We Grabbing From The Closet ❄️

Let’s close our eyes and, just for a second, pretend that it doesn’t look like late spring around Tahoe … instead, imagine that the ground is covered in a plethora of white, fluffy snow ….

While many may prioritize fashion when it comes to winter footwear, I’m all about function—even if it means sacrificing style. But fear not, because I’ve found a secret weapon that keeps my feet warm, dry, and comfortable, all while still looking good!

What Does UC Davis Have to do With Lake Tahoe?

UC Davis maintains a presence in the Lake Tahoe region with the Tahoe Environmental Research Center (TERC). TERC is part of the John Muir Institute of the Environment at UC Davis. The center focuses on research and education related to the environmental issues and ecosystems of the Lake Tahoe basin. Here are some of the key activities and research areas associated with the UC Davis lab in Lake Tahoe:

  1. Lake Monitoring: TERC conducts extensive monitoring of Lake Tahoe’s water quality, clarity, and ecological conditions. Researchers collect data to understand the factors influencing the lake’s health, including nutrient levels, algal blooms, and sedimentation.
  2. Climate Change Studies: The center is involved in research related to the impacts of climate change on the Lake Tahoe region. This includes studying changes in temperature, precipitation patterns, and how these factors affect the lake’s ecology and hydrology.
  3. Ecosystem Research: TERC scientists study the terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems in the Lake Tahoe basin. This encompasses research on native and invasive species, forest health, and the interactions between different components of the ecosystem.
  4. Education and Outreach: UC Davis, through TERC, is actively engaged in educating the public and policymakers about the environmental issues facing Lake Tahoe. This includes outreach programs, workshops, and collaborations with local communities.
  5. Invasive Species Management: The center is involved in efforts to monitor and manage invasive species in the Lake Tahoe basin. Invasive species, such as aquatic plants and animals, can have detrimental effects on the native ecosystem.
  6. Collaborative Research: UC Davis collaborates with other research institutions, government agencies, and non-profit organizations to conduct interdisciplinary research aimed at addressing complex environmental challenges in the region.
