What will the new year bring?
Recent snowstorms have blanketed the Tahoe Sierra bringing fresh powder and excitement in the new year. It also prompts the search for ski leases in the region. As familiar as ski leases have been, the moratorium on new short-term rental permits have given renewed popularity to seasonal lease agreements.
Covid has changed the dynamic of many aspects of our lives. It has shifted the way we work and where we want to work. The growing options of working remotely has changed the make-up of renters and owners in Tahoe. Traditional ski leases were typically families with kids on a ski team. This renter group has expanded to more professionals or larger groups of 20-30 somethings going in on a lease together.
This dynamic shift has increased demand for seasonal lease agreements. During the pandemic, they had been used as fall or summer leases for those who wanted to stay outside of winter. These seasonal leases are guaranteed income for the season with less wear and tear on the home since people will essentially be living in the home instead of just staying for a weekend.
The rise of seasonal rentals may influence renters to purchase a home away from home. There are more options to purchase with the new loan limits for 2022. These limits may make your dreams of owning in Tahoe a reality this new year.
