Neighborhood Spotlight
Tahoe Keys is a picturesque and sought-after waterfront community nestled in the southern region of Lake Tahoe, California. This unique neighborhood is renowned for its stunning natural surroundings, featuring a network of canals and lagoons that meander through the community, providing many properties with direct access to the lake itself.
Tahoe Keys was developed in the late 1950s and early 1960s by the Del Webb Corporation, which was primarily known for building retirement communities and the iconic Sun City developments. Tahoe Keys was one of their few non-retirement ventures.
What makes this interesting is that the original concept for Tahoe Keys was to create a retirement community with waterfront access. However, as the area gained popularity, it evolved into a diverse community that includes both full-time residents and vacation homeowners, with residents of various ages and backgrounds. So, the neighborhood’s origins as a retirement-focused development may surprise some people who associate it with a different era and purpose.
One of the defining features of Tahoe Keys is its distinctive system of navigable waterways. These channels not only enhance the community’s aesthetic charm but also offer residents the opportunity to enjoy various water-based activities right from their own backyard. Many homes boast private docks, allowing residents to dock their boats, kayaks, or paddleboards just steps away from their residences. This makes Tahoe Keys a haven for boating enthusiasts, anglers, and anyone who appreciates the serene beauty of lakeside living.
Beyond its aquatic allure, Tahoe Keys also boasts a range of amenities, including a private beach, tennis courts, and a marina. The neighborhood’s proximity to the vibrant town of South Lake Tahoe ensures residents have easy access to shopping, dining, entertainment, and outdoor adventures, all year round.
