$48 Million Estate Sells in Zephyr Cove by Sarah Tilton
From the Wall Street Journal, a fun article about the recent sale of the estate of Joel Horowitz, co-founder of Tommy Hilfiger.
Known as “Tranquility,” the 210-acre property in Zephyr Cove, Nevada was first listed in 2006 with an asking price of $100 million. The asking price was lowered to $75 million in 2011. Mr. Horowitz, who now serves as co-chairman of the board of Diane Von Furstenberg, built the estate in 2000. The property includes a 20,000-square-foot main house with a staircase modeled on the Titanic’s, a 19-seat movie theater and a lounge reminiscent of one in New York’s St. Regis Hotel. There is also a stable, art studio and gym. The conservatory has a glass mosaic pool and spa as well as a retractable glass ceiling. A boathouse sits on the private lake (the property is not on Lake Tahoe). The total living space is approximately 38,000 square feet.
